The Ministry

Our main activities revolve around the formulation of policies and strategies in the energy, water and wastewater sectors and the establishment of a responsive legal framework to govern the development of these sectors.

We have under our responsibility the Water Resources Unit, the Energy Efficiency Management Office and the Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security Authority​. The Central Water Authority, the Central Electricity Board, the Wastewater Management Authority, the Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency and the Utility Regulatory Authority are parastatal bodies under the aegis of the Ministry.

Ensure energy and water security, safe disposal of wastewater and peaceful use of nuclear technology and ionizing sources.


Our Mission

To fulfill our commitment to the nation, by ensuring:- 

the availability of reliable electricity, water and wastewater disposal services;

the development of renewable sources of energy;

promotion of peaceful use of nuclear technology and a safe utilization of ionizing sources in line with international radiation safety practices; and 

the development of programmes for the promotion of energy efficiency.​


Our Objectives

To ensure that policies and strategies are defined and implemented for energy security and the development of renewable energy;

To encourage energy efficiency in all sectors and households;

To mobilize water resources to meet the needs of the population and all sectors of the economy;

To ensure access to water of good quality;

To replace as far as possible on-site wastewater disposal systems by public sewer network facilities; and

To ensure peaceful and safe application of ionizing radiation in the country.

Charter Coverage

Finance and procurement -We will promptly process payment and endeavour to procure goods, services and works required in accordance with the Public Procurement Act and regulations.

Personnel - We will ensure that all employees adopt a customer-focused approach, develop team spirit and are offered training opportunities.

Administration - We undertake to provide prompt and professional services, sound analytical reports and recommendations and provide a clear and easy-to-understand reply to correspondence, in writing, within seven working days as from the date of receipt.
